Breaking News: Important RTM Billing Update for Facility-based Providers
Many facility-based providers in Rehabilitation Agencies and Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (CORFs) billing for Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) began experiencing issues with denials at the beginning of 2023, when billing for 98980 and 98981 on a UB-04 form. CMS has clarified that the denials were in error and has stated that a system change caused claims to be returned with reason code W7072. Providers and organizations that have experienced these issues may need to resubmit those claims to their MAC for reimbursement.
The error code has been bypassed so that providers can receive reimbursement for RTM services immediately and will be corrected permanently in a future update later this year. The statement is available for review in the April 13 issue of the MLN Connects newsletter.
MedBridge will continue to monitor the issue for future developments. For additional resources and information around RTM, refer to our RTM Help Center.
