Part of hospice care is supporting families of patients through the grief process. This course will cover grief and dying processes and individual responses, including psychological issues that may arise, when patients and families are coping with a terminal illness. It also addresses family dynamics that a hospice team may encounter in supporting families with grief as well as coping mechanisms that help people process grief in a healthy way.
Objectives:
1) Describe grief responses and healthy grieving
2) Identify parts of the dying process
3) Describe why it is important to identify psychological issues related to grief
4) Identify steps the hospice team can take to support family systems
5) Explain coping strategies that may help families process grief
This course has been certified by ACHC, and verified to align with the following CHAP Hospice Standards of Excellence: HCPC 13.I in Hospice Assessment, Care Planning and Coordination; HCDT 22.I in Hospice Care Delivery and Treatment; HSRM 24.I in Hospice Human Resource Management; and HSRF 22.I in Hospice Care to Residents of a Facility. It also provides training to help organizations meet the following federal regulations related to hospice services:
