1. The Physiological Theory and Terminology Behind Inhibitory Casting
Spasticity affects more than an estimated 10 million people worldwide, limiting their ability to fully engage in their life roles and maximize their quality of life. In this chapter we will introduce the terminology and theory behind inhibitory casting and how casting can assist with physiological changes in the spastic muscle.
2. Evidence-Based Medicine
Inhibitory casting has been used for over 40 years to assist with decreasing spasticity. In this chapter we examine current research and use case studies to illustrate situations in which inhibitory casting was used effectively.
3. Advantages, Disadvantages, Goals, and Clinical Decision Making Process for Inhibitory Casting
Therapists need to make decisions about how to most effectively treat their patients on a daily basis.
