There has been a twenty-five-fold increase in the number of hip arthroscopies performed between 2006 and 2013 primarily in response to improved diagnosis and treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). With that said, new evidence is coming to light suggesting that conservative management may be equally effective. This webinar will review current evidence regarding surgical versus conservative management of FAIS. We will also highlight evidence regarding current approaches to treating FAIS and discuss optimization of exercise prescription using an evidence-informed global-systems approach.

1. Surgery vs. Conservative Management of FAIS
This chapter will review existing evidence comparing surgical versus conservative treatment for patients with FAIS. This includes a review of preliminary evidence suggesting who may or may not respond to surgery.
2. Current State of Evidence Regarding Conservative Treatment in Patients With FAIS
This chapter will critically examine the current state of evidence regarding both surgical and conservative treatment approaches for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS). It will focus on reviewing existing research and clinical studies related to exercise prescriptions for managing FAIS, evaluating the efficacy, benefits, and limitations of various exercises. It will review the pathomechanics behind FAIS and propose a different exercise approach when treating patients with FAIS that is more reflective of the underlying pathomechanics. The chapter aims to provide insights into best practices for non-surgical management of FAIS.
3. A Complex-Systems Approach and Evidence-Informed Exemplars for Better Exercise Prescription in Patients With FAIS
This chapter will provide a general overview of a global-systems approach and how understanding the mechanism of injury for FAIS may lead to a different treatment approach. We will conclude with specific examples and video clips of how to employ exercises utilizing this global-systems approach which are missing from current evidence-based strategies.
