This course will prepare home care staff to discuss fire safety with patients or clients in their home. Learners will identify fire hazards, how to minimize the risk of fire from those hazards, how to use a fire extinguisher and other safety devices in the home setting. Learners will gain an understanding of how to prepare for this type of emergency, how to evacuate elders with mobility or other challenges and how to encourage the patient and their family to make a fire safety plan.
This course has been certified by ACHC. It helps meet the regulatory standards outlined in 29 CFR 1910.39 and aligns with ACHC home health standards.
