Hazard Communication Microlearning: Chemical Labels and Safety Data Sheets

This is a short course on chemical safety in the healthcare workplace, which covers the identification and understanding of chemical hazards. The featured scenario highlights the interpretation of a chemical label using the globally standardized system of classification and labeling of chemicals (GHS). The requirements for and contents of safety data sheets are also detailed, including an exercise where learners will have the opportunity to practice interpreting safety data sheets (SDS) for routine and emergency purposes.

Course Objectives
1. Identify and understand the hazards posed by chemicals in the workplace through the globally standardized system of classification and labeling of chemicals (GHS)
2. Understand the requirements for a contents of SDS for chemicals used in the workplace
3. Practice safe handling of chemicals through interpretation of the communication system used on chemical labels and SDS

This course is designed to help organizations meet OSHA training requirements on hazard communication per 29 CFR 1910.1200.
