Occupational therapy practitioners understand they play an important role in fall prevention for their patients. With falls being one of the main reasons people land in the emergency room, we must, as practitioners, work hard to implement the most impactful fall prevention treatment plans possible. This includes using evidence-based assessments for objective data collection and analysis within a treatment plan. Therapists often struggle with tying all the pieces together to create a robust treatment plan for patients due to a variety of obstacles. These may include time, confusion on what assessment to choose, or difficulty interpreting results and making them relatable to care.
Learners taking this webinar recording based on the “fall prevention” course series will get to see real-life treatment sessions that will demonstrate the therapist-patient relationship in action while addressing fall prevention.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Choosing Fall Prevention Assessments for Patients
This chapter will assist practitioners in determining which assessments to use with a patient, based on clinical information. We will help therapists analyze their patient’s needs and take the time to find the best assessment, or assessments, to use.
2. Combining Fall Assessment Results for Clinical Guidance in Treatment Planning
What happens after the assessment? This chapter will guide practitioners in analyzing results in order to determine the direction of treatment planning. Through the use of video examples, practitioners will see the intricate details of navigating assessment results with patients.
3. Documenting Assessment Results to Support Documentation
Describing assessments is part of documentation. This includes clinical interpretation of results about specific patient goals. Tying it all together in the documentation is key for therapists.
4. Question and Answer Session
This chapter is a viewer-submitted question and answer session, facilitated by Krista Covell-Pierson.
