Attempting to translate the science of intensity can feel awkward, burdensome, and even painful for today’s practitioner. In this summit, master clinicians, instructors, and academicians Drs. Mike Studer and J.J. Mowder-Tinney will provide practitioners with applications that translate the science of intensity with fidelity by delivering novel and practical applications of intensity in neurorehabilitation. Be ready to redefine and expand your clinical applications of intensity so that repetitions are more meaningful and patients are optimally engaged.
To facilitate clinical application and increase therapists’ confidence level, the presenters will incorporate extensive videos of patient activities, case studies, and engaging Q&A sessions driven by webinar attendees, leaving attendees with practical strategies that can be immediately applied in the clinic.
Expect to walk away from this engaging summit with so much novel information about intensity that your walk might become a pain-free run!
This is part 1 of the Neuro Summit. Be sure to register for Neuro Summit Part 2: Optimizing Post-Stroke Rehabilitation With the Use of AFOs and FES.
Learning Objectives
- Build interventions that leverage three different expressions of intensity
- Determine the evidence for and applications of intensity for persons with acute neurologic impairment and those with chronic expressions or degenerative conditions
- Assess motor learning approaches and their respective expressions of intensity, as well as their impact on performance of daily activities
- Adapt the task and environment to increase intensity while maintaining safety during performance of daily activities
- Analyze clinical challenges to address complex rehabilitative issues

Chapters & learning objectives
1. The Facts on Intensity: Definition, Physiologic Benefits, and Modalities
In this chapter, Dr. Studer will define intensity within the scopes of physiology, modalities, and opportunities in progression.
2. Motor Learning
In this chapter, we will showcase the advantages of diverse motor learning strategies and demonstrate their direct application in clinical practice. Through case-based examples, we will offer practical ideas that therapists can readily implement in their clinics the very next day.
3. How Motor Learning Compliments Intensity
This chapter will feature dynamic engagement and interactive collaboration as we collectively problem-solve through authentic patient cases. Practitioners are encouraged to submit their cases for discussion, during which both speakers will explore innovative approaches to enhancing intensity, integrating motor learning strategies, and reimagining patient-centered care.
