Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable neurodegenerative disease that can be challenging for providers to feel comfortable and confident in treating. Therapists will benefit from specific evidence-based exercise recommendations and intervention ideas for patients with various mobility impairments (mild, moderate, and severe) and provide guidance on education throughout the course of the disease. This course's concepts apply to all physical therapists treating patients with MS in inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings.
Learning Objectives
- Integrate evidence-based exercise recommendations, including high-intensity activities for patients in early, middle, and late stages of MS
- Develop appropriate equipment recommendations for patients in the middle and late stages of MS
- Determine optimal interventions for patients across all stages of MS
- Construct individualized patient education across the course of the disease progression
