Chapters & learning objectives
1. Background on Screening in Stroke
The first chapter of this course will introduce the rationale for dysphagia screening in patients with suspected stroke, and distinguishes the information gathered during screening from the information gathered during a clinical swallowing evaluation.
2. Models for Screening Implementation
The second chapter of this course will outline models for screening implementation, including ASHA’s methods for completing screening, and the strengths and limitations of different screening approaches. This chapter will also review the rationale for front line healthcare providers administering screening.
3. Training in Swallowing Screening
In this chapter, Stephanie will review strategies for training frontline healthcare providers that are described in the literature, or are currently under review, including the emerging use of realistic mannequins for training purposes.
4. Screening Tool Standards
In this chapter, Stephanie reviews and compares screening tools that are available to SLPs.
