Chapters & learning objectives

Introduction & Background

1. Introduction & Background

In this chapter, participants will be introduced to the history, associated terms, definitions, and components of self-awareness. Participants will also review a case excerpt from a client interview demonstrating changes that may take place after brain injury.

Theoretical Base

2. Theoretical Base

In this chapter, participants will define the neurological correlates, pre-injury factors and theories of change in self-awareness that are relevant to evaluation and intervention in cases of brain injury.

Evaluation

3. Evaluation

In this chapter, participants will learn to use the SELF Form to evaluate a client's level of self-awareness and his or her belief perspective. The implementation of the SELF Form will be demonstrated on a client recovering from brain injury, and on a family member.

Intervention

4. Intervention

This chapter defines specific strategies for effectively enhance self-awareness using the ABC's of treatment, including alliance building, brain education, and compensatory strategies.
