All too often in sports, athletes experience acute injury. This course provides an introduction into the most common acute and post-operative injuries to the shoulder joint. By presenting an evidence-based look at the most beneficial rehabilitation strategies and progression for rotator cuff repair, SLAP repair, and AC separation; this course prepares the sports therapist to easily approach any of these conditions in their practice. Lenny Macrina discusses the evaluation, treatment and progression of patients following an acute injury or post-operatively to the shoulder joint. A brief synopsis of the anatomy, biomechanics, and progression will be discussed in lecture and in case format. In addition, the course discusses rehabilitation program design to safely and systematically return patients to their maximal functional capacity. Experience the course material through motion graphics, interactive case studies, demonstrations, and informative lectures.

Chapters & learning objectives

Rotator Cuff Repair

1. Rotator Cuff Repair

Lenny Macrina seeks to provide an extensive introduction to rotator cuff repairs by discussing rehabilitation, biomechanics, testing, protocols, treatments, and a review of the literature. This dynamic chapter presents an in-depth lecture, comprehensive demonstration, and application of course materials through a case study.

SLAP Repair

2. SLAP Repair

What are the most important post-operative considerations for SLAP repair? This chapter provides an essential, evidence-based look at the most beneficial rehabilitation and strategies for SLAP repairs. The chapter concludes with a case study that demonstrates hands-on evaluation components for the post-operative SLAP repair patients.

AC Separation

3. AC Separation

This chapter concludes by exploring one final common injury: AC separation or sprain. By providing detailed coverage of the anatomy, mechanism of injury, examination, and classifications, Lenny Macrina prepares the participant to critically approach a case study in preparation for treating the condition in practice.
