Michael Crary
PhD, F-ASHA
Dr. Michael Crary is a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Director of Swallowing Research Laboratory at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. Dr. Crary specializes in disorders of swallowing in adults. He has published and lectured extensively, including internationally on these topics. He has received research funding from multiple sources including the NIH, Florida Department of Health, Shand’s Healthcare System, and corporate research sponsors. He is the lead investigator on a patent for an automated technology to identify dysphagia in acute stroke patients.
Dr. Crary’s clinical achievements were recognized in 1994 with the Florida Speech-Language and Hearing Association’s Clinical Achievement Award, and in 1995 with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Outstanding Clinical Achievement Award. In 1998 he was recognized as a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In 2005 he was awarded the Medal of Merit from his alma mater, Ohio University. In 2012, he was awarded the University of Florida Inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Award. He is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and the Dysphagia Research Society. Dr. Crary remains active in patient care.
