PT, PhD

David Chapman, PT, PhD, earned his physical therapy degree at Indiana University–Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and his PhD in Human Performance: Special Populations and Developmental Psychology from Indiana University – Bloomington. Currently, Dr. Chapman teaches pediatric and neurological rehabilitation content in the doctor of physical therapy program at St. Catherine University in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Chapman practiced in outpatient and acute care pediatric settings while teaching in the physical therapy program at IUPUI. Guided by principles from dynamic systems theory, Dr. Chapman has published numerous articles and textbook chapters that have focused on how the leg movements of infants with low muscle tone are influenced by their position in space, how sensory information impacts the movements displayed by children with central nervous system impairments, and the neurological examination process with children and adults. His current research is focused on using wireless inertial measurement units (IMUs) to accurately detect and assess the leg movements generated by infants with spina bifida who have had their spinal lesions repaired before and after they were born.
