Jo Ann Pelaez-Fisher
PhD, RN
Jo Ann holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, where her dissertation focused on the assessment of cultural competence, dementia attitude, and knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease among tertiary health care providers. She holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University in Nebraska and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Jo Ann is a nursing professor at the College of Southern Nevada, where she teaches Nursing Pharmacology and Medical-Surgical Nursing and is a liaison for the Nursing Management and Preceptorship course. Additionally, she coordinates the nursing program clinical courses for all nursing sections into the health care facilities throughout the Las Vegas valley. She has been with the College of Southern Nevada for more than 10 years.
Jo Ann is currently employed as a cath lab nurse at Dignity Health Siena campus in Henderson, Nevada. She is an integral team member of the invasive cardiology services that include cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty and stent placement, pacemaker or defibrillator insertions, and additional invasive cardiac procedures. She has more than 18 years of invasive cardiology experience and other nursing experience, which includes cath lab management, postanesthesia care, and preoperative nursing.
Jo Ann has interests in athletic activities such as distance cycling, stand-up paddleboarding, and short-distance running. She also enjoys winter skiing and hiking. She is active in her community, volunteering at her local church, helping to teach religious education to children. She is married with two children. She volunteers at her son’s Boy Scout troop in Henderson, Nevada, and is an active member of her son’s high school band booster organization.
