Steven Powell

Steven D. Powell, MSN, RN-BC, CRRN, is a Peruvian-American nurse with inpatient specialties including medical-surgical (American Nurses Credentialing Center Board Certified), spinal cord injury (Rehabilitation Nursing Certification Board Certified), and CBRNE decontamination (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, etc.). His healthcare volunteer experience includes the Disaster Emergency Medical Personnel System (DEMPS), where he was most recently deployed in January of 2020 to Puerto Rico for their 6.4-magnitude earthquake. Additionally, he has lived in 10 cities over four different continents: Los Angeles, California; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mendoza, Argentina; Moscow, Russia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bakersfield, California; Doha, Qatar; Houston, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Steven's advocacy experience includes the American Nurses Association’s Political Action Committee, Texas Nurses Association’s Government Affairs Committee, Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs Legislative Committee, and the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Health Policy Committee. Additionally, Mr. Powell served as a legislative political coordinator with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest AFL-CIO union representing federal workers. His efforts were recognized by AFGE at their triennial national convention as a finalist for the Ed Klein Political Action Award in 2018. The Houston Chronicle recognized him as a Top 150 Nurse in their annual “Salute to Nurses” issue in 2019.
