The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) has been endorsed by multiple governing bodies as best practice in texture modification for dysphagia. This course will provide education and resources on the IDDSI framework for clinicians treating the pediatric population. Attendees will gain knowledge on how to best implement and execute the framework, which will empower them to guide caregivers and workplace administration alike. Target audiences include speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, nurses, and registered dieticians. This course is applicable to all care settings.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. The Importance of Consistent Language in Discussing Diet Modification
This chapter will highlight the importance of using consistent and standardized language when discussing texture-modified dysphagia diets. Consequences of inconsistency will be reviewed as well as how to generate organizational buy-in for a standardized framework.
2. The IDDSI Framework: Liquids
This chapter will outline and describe each liquid level of the IDDSI framework with a highlight on Level 1, slightly thick liquids, for the pediatric population. Testing methods will reviewed as well as the physiologic rationale for IDDSI consistency levels.
3. The IDDSI Framework: Solids
This chapter will outline and describe each solid level of the IDDSI framework with a highlight on transitioning to solids and developing chewing skills for the pediatric population. Testing methods will reviewed as well as the physiologic rationale for IDDSI consistency levels.
