Home Health agencies are required have a comprehensive Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) program as part of the Conditions of Participation (CoP). QAPI is a systematic data-driven method to identify and develop a Quality Improvement Projection (PIP) to improve patient care. This course will provide insight and guidance to create or modify QAPI program by learning about the five standards and their application within an organization. This course will focus on four of the standards and the fifth will be addressed in Home Health QAPI – Part 2.

1. Home Health QAPI Overview
Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) is a home health regulation in the Conditions of Participation (CoP). QAPI is the integration of both Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement together to improve outcomes in a systematic method. Learn about the need to use a data-drive approach and develop QAPI culture to be successful.
2. QAPI Standards
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provide agencies five specific QAPI Standards. This chapter will explore each standard including description, guidance, and implementation examples. The standards include: Executive Responsibility, Program Scope, Program Data, Program Activities, and Performance Improvement Projects.
3. Data Diving
There are various data sources that can support your QAPI program. Data accuracy is critical to ensure identifying problem or improvement areas for agency. Learn the questions you need to ask about the data and resources.
4. Patient Safety and Infection Prevention
Home health agencies are to address patient safety and infection prevention within the agency QAPI program. Learn about CMS’s guidance, how to identify potential problem areas, and some implementation examples.
