Chapters & learning objectives

1. Introduction
This chapter introduces the unique challenges of home care and outlines how HHAs can set themselves up for success before a visit. Topics include understanding the client’s care needs, obtaining necessary supplies, scheduling visits efficiently, and communicating with clients to ensure their readiness. These foundational skills prepare HHAs to deliver organized and client-centered care.

2. During the Visit
In this chapter, participants will learn the six essential steps for a successful visit: greet, observe, assess, perform, record, and conclude. Using realistic scenarios, this chapter demonstrates the importance of professional introductions, respectful communication, and keen observation of the client’s condition and home environment. HHAs will also practice prioritizing care tasks, taking vital signs, and maintaining accurate records, ensuring they fulfill the care plan while addressing any client concerns.

3. After the Visit
This chapter focuses on best practices for concluding and following up on a home care visit. HHAs will learn how to clean up and replace items used during care, communicate next steps with clients, and ensure proper documentation is completed promptly. Emphasis is placed on reporting any concerns to the case manager and maintaining clean, ready-to-use equipment. These practices help HHAs provide continuous, high-quality care while fostering professional accountability.
