Chapters & learning objectives
1. Parkinsonism Signs and Symptoms
Parkinson’s disease is the most common form of parkinsonism. Its signs and symptoms will be detailed, from the prodromal to the late stage of the disease. This chapter will also discuss how we define parkinsonism and Parkinson’s disease, with a detailed description of the different parkinsonian syndromes.
2. What Are the Other Parkinsonian Disorders?
Parkinsonism includes a number of different parkinsonian syndromes. This chapter will compare and contrast the symptoms of the most common parkinsonian syndromes and analyze how the symptoms of each syndrome impact the plan of care.
3. Diagnosis and Medical Management of Parkinsonian Syndromes
In this chapter, we demonstrate the motor examination of the client with parkinsonism as completed for diagnosis. This examination is then applied to case examples. The role of diagnostic modalities, including imaging and biomarkers, is examined, and medical management is discussed.
4. Outcome Measures for Parkinsonian Syndromes
In this chapter, we discuss the use of validated outcome measures recommended for use in clients with parkinsonian disorders. Case scenarios are utilized to demonstrate selection of outcome measures based on individual client presentation, including those with rare parkinsonian disorders.
