Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the uptake of telehealth in speech-language pathology was slow, and clinicians often cite lack of awareness of the evidence as a barrier to uptake of telepractice. Since the pandemic, with more clinicians needing to use telepractice, there has been a strong desire for synthesized information about the evidence base for telehealth in the speech-language pathology field. This course will review the evolution of telehealth in the field of adult medical speech-language pathology services and detail the current evidence base for using telehealth in the management of language and communication disorders, voice and speech disorders, swallowing, and specialist caseloads. This course is applicable for speech-language pathologists and people in management roles supporting speech-language pathology services.

1. The Use of Telehealth in Adult Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Services
This chapter will cover the evolution and uptake of telehealth in the speech-language pathology profession and detail the known barriers and facilitators to telehealth. It will review the different types of telehealth models (individual models, group models, telementoring, etc.) that have applications for speech-language pathology service delivery. The content of this chapter exposes the learner to the ways telehealth can be integrated into speech-language pathology care.
2. Application of Telehealth in Adult Language and Communication Management
In this chapter, the current evidence for telehealth models used to support language assessment and management in speech-language pathology will be reviewed. This information will assist learners to understand the extent of the current evidence base and provide them with an understanding of the telehealth models used to date to support language and communication services in speech-language pathology.
3. Application of Telehealth in Adult Voice and Speech Management
The content of this chapter is designed to provide an overview of the current evidence of the use of telehealth to assess and manage voice and speech disorders. This evidence review will provide the learner with an understanding of the studies conducted to date and the successful telehealth models that have been used for management of voice and speech disorders.
4. Application of Telehealth in Swallowing Management
In this chapter, an overview of the different telehealth models used for swallowing disorder management and the outcomes of these models will be discussed. This information will enable the learner to understand how telehealth has been used to support dysphagia assessment and management within the field of speech-language pathology.
5. Application of Telehealth in Specialist Adult Caseloads
Telehealth can be used to support more complex specialist caseloads. In this chapter, discussion of telehealth models used for the advanced practice area of head and neck cancer support will be reviewed to provide the learner with an understanding of the ways telehealth can be incorporated into these services.
6. Evaluating Service Outcomes and Consumer Perceptions
Telehealth services have many benefits for both services and consumers. In this chapter, the diverse range of parameters that can be considered to evaluate the impact of telehealth services is discussed. This chapter provides the learner with a greater understanding of how telehealth services may impact the consumer and the clinical service in which they are introduced.
