This course will focus on conditions and disorders that impact the pediatric pulmonary system. It is vital to understand typical pulmonary development prior to the start of this course. Material will begin with diagnostic tests and measures and move into commonly seen pediatric pulmonary conditions. Conditions will be discussed based on age range from infant to adolescent. Emphasis will then be given to pulmonary equipment, including oxygen devices commonly seen in various practice settings in pediatrics, and medications and implications for physical therapy plan of care will be analyzed. The course will end with appropriate development of interventions for this population.

1. Pulmonary Diagnostics
Pulmonary diagnostic testing will be examined in this chapter. Results from testing can often help determine a physical therapy plan of care. It is important to understand typical development of the pulmonary system prior to this chapter.
2. Infant Pulmonary Conditions
Infants experience a multitude of pulmonary conditions secondary to the lungs not being fully developed at this age. This chapter will discuss commonly seen infant conditions, and implications for physical therapy practice.
3. Childhood Pulmonary Conditions
This chapter will focus on the pathophysiology of commonly seen pulmonary conditions in childhood. Implications for physical therapy practice will be explored.
4. Neuromuscular Conditions
Neuromuscular conditions often have significant impact on the pediatric pulmonary system. This chapter will discuss commonly seen neuromuscular conditions and the sequelae that accompany the disease process.
5. Pulmonary Equipment
Equipment such as oxygen devices is utilized in the pediatric pulmonary population. This chapter will explain frequently seen equipment, and implications for physical therapy practice.
6. Pulmonary Medications
This chapter will focus on commonly seen medications in the pediatric pulmonary population. Emphasis will be placed on how medication can impact development and movement, as well as the physical therapy plan of care.
7. Pulmonary Interventions
This chapter will discuss pulmonary physical therapy interventions for the infant to adolescent age range. Interventions will aim to prevent deconditioning and promote aerobic endurance and capacity.
