1. Accessing the IV Site
This chapter reviews proper hand hygiene prior to accessing the IV. The technique for scrubbing the hub for accessing a line already placed will be discussed. An overview of accessing a PORT-A-CATH will be reviewed, including assessing and choosing the right kind and size of needle.
2. Signs and Symptoms of IV Problems
This chapter will review the signs and symptoms of IV infiltration. The signs and symptoms of infection of the IV site will also be discussed. Management of the IV site infection and infiltrated IV site is presented.
3. IV Lines for Long-Term Use and Troubleshooting Clotted Lines
This chapter will review which IV lines are appropriate for long-term use and the care of the different IV lines. A discussion on how to troubleshoot IV sites that will not flush will be done. Clot busters will be reviewed.
