Chapters & learning objectives
1. Dysphagia in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Why Do We Care?
Chapter 1 will examine the relationships between swallowing dysfunction and negative outcomes in patients with OSA. Impact of dysphagia and OSA on quality of life will be examined.
2. Dysphagia and OSA: What Does It Look Like?
This chapter will explore the specific characteristics of dysphagia in patients with OSA, including pharyngeal stasis, anatomical and physiological changes, and the contribution of GER.
3. How Can We Identify Dysphagia?
The characteristics typically associated with dysphagia in OSA will be examined in order to ensure early identification and assist with prevention of negative outcomes.
4. How Can We Help?
In chapter 4, clinicians will be provided with compensatory strategies, management tips, and exercises to improve swallow function in individuals with OSA.
