Clearly we want the best for each of our patients, so we work hard to promote optimum outcomes. However, some of the most difficult and uncomfortable moments in our work are dealing with difficult patient dynamics. In this course, we will explore approaches to managing several difficult situations we face as clinicians – such as patients who are angry or non-compliant – as well as explore ways to support our patients’ resilience as they progress.

Dealing With Difficult Situations

1. Dealing With Difficult Situations

In this chapter, we will review various approaches to use in some of the most difficult patient interactions, such as when patients are angry, frustrated, noncompliant, or exhibit inappropriate behavior. These approaches will help the clinician build confidence in managing these challenging situations and help foster more trusting and productive clinical relationships with patients.

Supporting Patient Progress

2. Supporting Patient Progress

In this chapter, we will discuss ways to support patient progress. We will examine the benefits of identifying and building upon patient strengths, and review a three-part strategy to help build resilience in our patients.

Building Resilience Q&A

3. Building Resilience Q&A

This chapter involves a panel discussion with two clinicians talking about building upon patient strengths and promoting resilience.
