This course benefits clinicians who are interested in treating the postpartum population. This course will familiarize the participant with common baby and childcare activities, as well as the use of belts and supports that can assist postpartum patients with improved daily function. Additionally, the course will help the participant identify common acute postpartum complaints such as breast and perineal care. It will help the clinician in planning general treatment strategies to improve posture, daily activity, and mobility in the postpartum patient. Modalities and self-treatment ideas will also be covered to further empower this patient population base and guide general treatment.

Rachel’s primary specialty is pelvic rehabilitation. This includes incontinence, prolapse, constipation, pelvic pain, and peripartum issues such as cesarean birth or diastasis rectus abdominis. Chapters & learning objectives
1. Breast and Perineal Care
This chapter discusses general considerations for common acute postpartum breast and perineal complaints. It also provides resources and treatment ideas, including information on general breast and nipple care, clogged milk ducts, and perineal care.
2. Biomechanics and Common Childcare Activities
This chapter helps the participant become familiar with common daily childcare activities. You will learn helpful modifications and treatment ideas for activities such as changing a diaper, feeding, bathing, carrying, lifting, and sleeping. This will help you teach your patients how to safely care for themselves and their children.
3. Posture, Gait, and Exercise
This chapter will help the clinician to identify common postural and gait deviations in the postpartum patient and discusses general treatment ideas for correction. Additionally, it addresses general considerations for activity and exercise for patients who have had vaginal or cesarean birth.
4. Postpartum Supports, Belts, and Splints
This chapter will help the clinician identify postpartum patients who would benefit from a postpartum supportive device for the perineum, abdominals, or pelvic girdle. Also discussed will be how to apply abdominal binders and pelvic girdle support belts.
5. Modalities and Other Interventions
This chapter will discuss the use of common modalities with the postpartum patient, including TENS, ultrasound, traction, and thermal modalities. Also included is a general review of therapeutic treatments for home treatment as attending appointments may be challenging for the postpartum population.
