Protecting Our People Episode 2: Homecare Employee Risk Is Organizational Risk

Audio Runtime: 25 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 13 Minutes

There is a growing problem of violence against caregivers in home-based care. In a recent survey, over 20% of caregivers reported violence at the hands of clients in the previous year, and over 30% during the course of their careers. Violence causes acute and long-term physical and emotional injury, leading to burnout, turnover, and poor patient care. Home-based care leaders need to understand the risk to individuals and the agency and options to improve safety.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify the five pillars of safety defined by the NAHC’s call to action
  • Recognize the role of culture in safety
  • Highlight the challenges of communicating about safety and risk in agency
This is an audio-only course. Additional materials are available for download within the course. To receive continuing education credit, complete the course and the accompanying quiz.
