1. The Rating Scale and Coding Tips
This chapter will describe the rating scale used to score the Section GG mobility items. Understanding how to use the scale and when to use (or not use) the "activity not attempted" codes is important to the success of your outcomes.
2. Items Representing Bed Mobility: GG0170A, GG0170B, GG0170C
This chapter will define the three bed mobility items in Section GG. These three items measure an important aspect of function. They are collected in all the post-acute care settings and can therefore be used to measure a patient's performance across multiple settings.
3. Items Representing Transfer Skills: GG0170D, GG0170E, GG0170F
This chapter will define the three items that capture transfer skills in Section GG. Information about the nuances of the different definitions will be reviewed as well as discussing various assessment techniques.
4. Item Representing Car Transfers: GG0170G
The car transfers item is frequently not assessed by clinicians in all the post-acute care settings. This chapter will explore the reasons why that is, as well as the importance of capturing it when it is appropriate. Assessment techniques will be shared.
5. Items Representing Walking on Even Surfaces: GG0170I, GG0170J, GG0170K
Walking is an important aspect of measuring functional ability. This chapter will cover the one walking item, which assesses walking on uneven surfaces. The chapter will share tips for assessing this item, no matter what setting you practice in.
6. Item Representing Walking on Uneven Surfaces: GG0170L
Walking is an important aspect of measuring functional ability. This chapter will cover three of the walking items assessed with Section GG. Information about what is and is not included in each activity will be discussed.
7. Items Representing Ability to Go Up and Down Steps: GG0170M, GG0170N, GG0170O
Section GG includes three items that assess a person's ability to go up and down steps. This chapter will explore the importance of assessing these items in persons for whom it is appropriate, as well as discussing how to capture an accurate assessment.
8. Item Representing Skill in Picking Up an Object: GG0170P
The ability to bend over and pick up an object is a functional task requiring balance. Item GG0170P assesses that ability. This chapter will talk about the importance of this item and how to assess it accurately.
9. Items Representing Wheelchair Skills: GG0170Q, GG0170R, GG0170RR, GG0170S, GG0170SS
The wheeling items are used differently depending on the post-acute care setting you work in. This chapter will discuss those differences, as well as provide tips to know when to assess these items and how to ensure accuracy.
