Juzell (Joey) Pettis

Joey has 45 years experience in long-term care and acute care settings. Joey’s experience includes both staff and management positions in long-term care. For the past 35 years she has worked in long-term care management as a Director of Nursing and as a Consultant with responsibility for staff management, education and resident clinical care. Joey has extensive experience in developing and implementing quality assurance programs and wound care programs. Joey is both a Wound Care Certified and Diabetic Wound Certified nurse.
Joey is a state and national speaker on a number of long-term care topics including leadership, culture change, pressure injury prevention and treatment, and fall prevention. Her training and instruction has been instrumental in working with not only her facility but with other long-term care organizations to produce “Culture Change” to improve the quality of life for the elder and disabled population. Joey has implemented innovative nutritional programs within her facilities to assure resident choice and satisfaction that directly affects the healing and prevention of pressure ulcers.
Joey is also the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Director of Nursing Council. This position requires active participation in multiple state coalitions chairing the state’s Hand Hygiene Initiative. This position also allows Joey to mentor Directors of Nursing and also provide instruction through the Long-Term Care Nursing Leadership Program.
