Skin is the largest organ of the body and has several critical functions. These functions help to maintain the health of the body, so maintaining skin integrity is of paramount importance. Skin integrity refers to skin health, and an issue with integrity may mean that skin is damaged, vulnerable to injury, or unable to heal normally. This course reviews the purpose of the skin, what skin issues can be found in the home health population, when and what to report in regard to skin integrity, and how to prevent further breakdown. Identifying skin issues, reporting them immediately, and helping to prevent further issues are important skills for the home health aide to master.
